Catching Up

March 2013:

1.     We went under contract on the sale of our Richmond Hill home. Ten weeks after we listed we sold our beautiful home. In such a bad housing market this was such a huge blessing.  Still it was bitter sweet to leave a place that has so many memories. 

2.     After several trips to Atlanta we found our new home. It was a challenge finding a home. We started our search with several ideas in mind and by the time we settled on our home we had pretty much scrapped most our original plan. This is much harder for me than Chris—flexibility and change are not my strengths

3.     We watched a ton of RHHS soccer games. It was strange knowing that would be our last season sitting in those bleacher seats. Chris and I have spent many many hours cheering the Wildcats from those stands.   And we will miss that part of our Richmond Hill life.  GO WILDCATS!

 

April 2013:

1.      We continued with the selling and purchasing our homes.  This meant lots of calls with realtors, which lucky for us was great because both Ann Boese (selling) and Ron Cheney (purchasing)  were fun to work with.  It also meant lots of house inspections, financing people and lawyers—which was not our favorite part.  But we made it through!

 

2.     On April 22-24 we packed up our home.  We closed on April 25th.  On April 26 I taught my last day of seminary then we cleaned and at 10am we cried as we drove away from our beautiful home in Richmond Hill.  As we walked through that one last time a flood of memories washed through us.  (Here are a few memoires in no particular order).

 

May 2013: 

1.     We stayed in the Woodbury’s home and waited. 

2.     On May 8-12 we went to see our good friends that Sasser on our way to see Grandmother and Papa.  Early that morning we had a phone call that Grandmother was in surgery.  So we  headed to Raleigh to do our usual thing—visit loved ones in the hospital—we really need to alter our Raleigh vacations away from hospital centered activities!  Grandmother had surgery and the next day Joey had surgery. 

3.     Then on May 14 we left Katie for ten days with the Smiths and Bryson families.  And Chris and I drove to Powder Springs (again).  The transition into our new home had a few hiccups, but in the end it all worked out fine.  We were able to get a lot unpacked with the help of Drew and Jessica who happened to be driving through on their way to start new employment in Raleigh.  Their timing was perfect.

4.     On May 22 we went back to Richmond Hill to withdraw Katie from school and bring her to Powder Springs(again).

 

5.  Since then, Katie has contacted both Cross country and soccer Coaches, started summer running with the XC team.  She had a dentist appointment and scheduled her wisdom teeth extraction.  She has visited Harrison High.  She has gone on Trek with the Powder Springs Trek.  She has scouted out some possiblities for Archery. 

 

      This move has been so strange for me.  There are some familiar things, but not fully familiar.   Ten years changes both people and places.  Everything I have experienced in the last 10 years in Savannah was foreign to me(remember I grew up in Wyoming).  But somehow all that has become familiar.  Now it seems so strange to not see that endless flat terrain, with pine and palm intermixed and I even miss the buzzards.  Life is funny that way.  It has taken me 51+ years to finally understand familiar is just foreign with time.  And I am more determined not waste a moment making my new foreign familiar. 

 

      I am excited to have each of come "home".  This much I know, having family here will make this new place my home.  And we can begin "making more memoires"!
